Satellite Fields is a series of large-scale tree formations I am making in North Dakota. Covering 4 acres of land, each piece will be large enough to appear in satellite surveillance of the area, so that the formations can be visited two ways: in-person and via internet programs such as Google Earth.

Each formation will exist for potentially 100 years, depending on the lifespan of the trees and the existence of Google Earth technology. In their ever-changing "final form", the formations will appear as abstract designs embedded in the landscape – living compositions that evolve over time.

My tree formation project is designed to be experienced virtually, while also undermining this experience, since the slow process of tree growth resists the fast pace and short attention span of internet consciousness.
